Wallaby - The Mouse Kangaroo E-mail
User Rating: / 0
Hardware

NGS Technologies manufactures the Wallaby optical mouse with a 'kangaroo' system!  This is a 2-in-1 mouse 'system' that can be used with a desktop computer and a laptop, during travelling.

The Wallaby 'kangaroo' mouse has a larger 'shell' that encloses a smaller portable mouse.  When you are using this with a desktop (or not travelling) use the larger shell (that has the smaller one inside).

When travelling, just pop out the inner mouse and take it with you!  Of course, the outer shell will not work without the inner one.

Specifications:

  •  2 in 1
  •  2.4 GHz wireless optical mouse
  •  800 dpi optical sensor
  •  USB interface

Interactive Intelligent HDTV Table by Panasonic E-mail

Household

Panasonic has unveiled their HDTV - "interactive & intelligent" table.  Now, what this does is pretty amazing!

This 'table' can be used to control everything in your household.

For e.g., you can control the temperature, lights, TV, etc.  The giant screen is 'touch' sensitive and yet hard enough to place items on.  I believe it is scratch proof (at least resistant).

We are not done yet... the 'table' "reads" data from your cell phone and can display contact phone numbers, agenda, calendar stuff, etc!

Here is a video of the HDTV Intelligent, Interactive table by Panasonic.

Glass Knives - StoneAge Style E-mail

Unusual

Here's something unusual.  The all-transparent glass "knives" are modelled to resemble stone-age implements.

The knives are hand-carved and shaped very carefully.  Although I am not sure if the glass is the 'hardened' variety, this is an interesting concept.

Bombardier Embrio - One Wheel Motorbike - Concept E-mail
User Rating: / 9
Transportation

The Bombardier EMBRIO Advanced Concept is a one-wheeled bike (or 'mono' ike), that is supposed to run on hydrogen.  It has a hydrogen fuel cell powering the engine.

It has gyroscopes and related 'electronic technologies' that stabilize the bike during riding, just like the Segway.

Bombardier says that this concept is a 'rider-friendly' vehicle that is similar to a motorcycle.  They also say that it supports one (or more) passengers!

Some of the accessories in the Embrio are:

  • gyroscopes and sensors
  • high-performance braking system
  • active suspension
  • night vision
  • robotic assistance
  • digitally encoded learning key (to start the engine)

You dont have to panic when you stop the bike, either.  The vehicle's front wheels deploy to the ground like a jet plane landing gear to increase longitudinal stability (*whew*).

Although I am in no hurry to get one, it will be available in 2025!  Who knows...we may be driving "flying cars" in 2025!

I think this is a really cool idea.  Blaupunkt's new in-dash GPS Stereo, the new TravelPilot Rome uses the display of the CD player to show GPS information!

The 3.2 inch screen is supposed to be quite bright and has zooming functionality.  It has 64 MB of internal memory.  Maps of the UK and Ireland are available.

Of course, you can still play your favorite CDs, MP3s, listen to FM, etc...etc...  The TravelPilot Rome could have been even cooler if it had an external USB port where I can plug in a large USB drive containing thousands of songs!

MSNBC Gary Krakow shows - Worlds Best Cellphone E-mail

Communication

Gary Krakow, the famous MSNBC columnist talks about the Motorola C116.

He says that this is probably the world's best cellphone.

I make it a point to read Gary's column regularly... and I am not surprised about this column either.

First of all, the basic need for a cellphone is for... making and receiving calls!

Gary says:

A very, very basic GSM handset that handles incoming and outgoing calls as well as SMS messages, the C116 is sold all over the world — except for the United States. It’s not sold here because it’s too cheap!

The C116 lasts 5 days without having to recharge.  The call quality is really good. It is cheap.

Although we 'technophiles' wouldn't want to be caught dead with a gadget like the C116, some of us may see Gary's point.

Go ahead and read Gary's column... I am sure some of you may start thinking...

Sharp unveiled the world's smallest WiFi ( IEEE 802.11 b/g on 2.4 GHz) module.  It consumes 0.9mW/hour and measures 10x10x1.6 mm!

It features the smallest package size and lowest power consumption in the industry. You will most probably see it in cell phones.

Sharp succeeded in reducing the module size by integrating a high-frequency analog signal processor with digital signal processing units such as the power management unit (PMU) and media access controller (MAC).

So, you want a cool looking remote, that has all the bells and whistles?

You might have seen various 'programmable' remotes with touch screen.  But those puppies are bulky, wide, not easy to handle and expensive!

Phillips has unveiled their new Pronto SRU9600

This awesome remote has an LCD touch screen and can control upto 8 devices.

Of course, it will display buttons that pretain to the particular device only.

In order to program the devices, forget about entering crappy three-digit codes!

The Pronto SRU9600 displays easy to follow, step-by-step instructions.  By following these instructions, you can progam almost any device.  It can also 'learn' from other remotes.

Personally, although I love the black-silver scheme, I am kinda worried about fingerprints.  Well, considering the fact that I like eating popcorn while watching movies!

Where can you buy it?

Not yet (as of this posting) ... It will be available in Spring 2006 and estimated cost is around $150.00

Not bad.... not bad at all!   More pictures ahead...
