This device has been seen in Japan since 2004. Now, Sony has announced that the renamed - Librié e-1000 electronic book - will be available here (USA) in March '06.

It weighs around 250 grams and is 1.3 cm deep. It features the e-ink technology and doesnt require any backlighting. It also supports (optional) Memory Stick or SD cards.

It has an integrated rechargeable battery. This has enough juice to power 7500 page turns. Why "page-turns"? Because this unit doesnt consume power when displaying a page. It consumes power only when the content is changing. That's the beauty of the e-ink technology.

Sony says that this can display PDF documents, websites, JPEG photos etc. Although the display is primarily black & white.

Street prices are estimated to be around $300-$400.
